NARA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Notre Dame, USA for Oceanographic research in the Indian Ocean.

The signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lanka and University of Notre Dame (ND) was held on 24th March 2017. More than twenty five (25) delegates including Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Dr. Anil Premaratna, Chairman, NARA, Professor Thomas Burish, Provost University of Notre Dame, Dr. Terri Paluszkiewicz, Program Manager, Physical Oceanography, Office of Naval Research were attended to Workshop and signing Ceremony. The MoU was signed to initiate collaborative research between NARA, University of Notre Dame, Scripps Institute Oceanography, WoodsHole Oceanographic Institute and University of Washington. The proposed program mainly focused on Monsoon Intra-seasonal Oscillations in the Bay of Bengal. The Project activities will be continued during next five years up to 2021.
