NARA Scientific sessions 2017, a Great achievement


The Scientific Sessions 2017 was held on 27th July 2017 at the Auditorium of National Aquatic Resource Research and Development Agency (NARA), Colombo 15, Sri Lanka. The session theme was “Diversification of Aquatic Industry for Development” and sessions were accommodated on a wide range of themes, including Fisheries and Aquaculture, Aquatic Biotechnology and Animal Health, Oceanography and Hydrography, Fisheries Socio-Economics and Marketing, Aquatic Food Technology, Conservation and Management of Aquatic Environment.

As the leading research organization in the living and non living aquatic resources sector, NARA has immensely contributed to knowledge base of the sector by conducting high quality research on par with national and international standards.

The Inauguration ceremony was graced by His Excellency Mr. Kenichi Suganuma, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka.
Guest of honour speech was delivered by Prof. Harindra Fernando, University of Notre Dame (U.S.A).

Totally 58 abstracts were accepted to publish in the proceedings of NARA Scientific Sessions 2017. Presenters included a diverse array of scientists in the NARA, universities and research institutes in Sri Lanka and Session speakers inspired many conversations and the exchanging of ideas on what type research needs to be carry out to ensure healthier aquatic environment for the economic growth.

Prof. (Miss) P.R.T. Cumaranathunge, University of Ruhuna, Prof. D.S. Jayakody, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka,Dr.J.K.Rajapaksha, NARA, Prof.E.I.L.Silva, Chairman, Water Resources Science and Technology, Prof. K.K.D.S. Ranaweera, University of Sri Jayawardanapure who are eminent researches in Sri Lanka were chairpersons of the sessions.
