The "Nimesh putha" is a multiday fishing vessel that was modified and equipped with a cooling system in the fish hold with the funds provided by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. On 11th January 2023, after the modification, the boat embarked on a fishing trip and returned to Mirissa Fishery Harbour on 31st January 2023. The fishing operations were carried out from 15th to 27th January 2023. Upon reaching the boat to the Mirrissa, Skipjack tuna fish samples were drawn by the Institute of Post Harvest Technology, NARA . Fish samples were collected from 4, 8, and 16 days of storage in the fish hold following the catch and underwent sensory, microbiological and chemical analysis to assess the freshness of fish. The results of the tests revealed that all of the tested samples exhibited excellent quality and freshness.
